I actually really enjoyed this novella/short story. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. It was very "cozy" and sweet. I guess it would be considered a paranormal romance, but I'm not usually a fan of that genre. The romance was sweet and not dirty. And it was a "light" paranormal story - not evil and scary. This was a light, fun Halloween story. It was great to see that the characters as well as the ghost got their happy ending.
Marnie is the town librarian whose father left her and her mother without a backward glance. He is back in town with his new wife and young son, but he doesn't even bother to acknowledge Marnie as he daughter. Collin is in town to visit his sister and parents. He takes his niece to the library for story time and sees Marnie, someone he knew in high school.
Bill, the library ghost, sees Marnie and Collin and knows that they are meant to be together. He takes a hand in pushing the two together on this Halloween. He doesn't want to see the two of them have regrets like he does.
This is a fast read, but it has all the elements of a good story. I got to know the characters and their motivations. My only regret is that it wasn't a full length book since I wanted to see more (but then I always want to see more when I enjoy the book). The cover wasn't my favorite since it didn't really reflect the story for me, but that doesn't matter since it is the story I'm reviewing.
This book could have been better if it was more fleshed out. It could have used some editing because for most of the book I found myself trying to interpret what the heck the characters were talking about because there was some poor sentence construction. As for the plot it had potential. I liked the idea of what it could have been had there been some more development on the part of the main characters. I loved the ghost, and he had me cracking up, but I felt that the story between the two main characters was too unbelievable. If you have two hours to kill then you can entertain yourself with this book, but I wouldn't pay for it. I really am disappointed at what this could have been.
It starts off with a book reclusive librarian named Marnie. I liked her right away because she reminded me a little of myself. She was a bit shy and reserved and liked helping people. I always find those kind of traits endearing when I am reading a book. It makes me connect more. The book starts off with Marnie giving story hour at the library for the local children on Halloween. She sees a familiar face named Collin and all her she is taken back to her crush she had in high school. After all the years that have gone by she still has strong feelings for a boy now grown to be a fine looking man. It is the typical my love life had pretty much sucked until you came back into my life. Cliché? Yes! But it is worth the read. The book uses a bit of humor by including a sarcastic ghost by the name of Bill who gets Marnie out of her shell. He pretty much let her know that she has to take control of her life. After a few small mishaps in the story, Marnie gets a chance at love thanks to the help of Bill. It was a sweet quick read and I recommend you give it a try. I give it four stars.
This book was very cute. BUT... it was too short. I loved the characters, but there wasn't enough. It ended too quick. There were too many unanswered questions in my mind. HOW did Bill get stuck being a ghost. What will happen with Marnie and her father. I wish Marnie and Collin had more time to develop their relationship instead of getting together almost immediately after seeing each other again after many years. So Because of these reasons I am giving this book 3.5 stars. I would change my review if the author ever decides to expand the story into a full length novel.
This short novella was real sweet and easy to read.
Marnie is a single woman who has become the local librarian in the town she grew up in. In high school she was shy and introverted yet she had a crush on a guy named Collin. Of course she didn't think he even noticed her.
On Halloween night Marnie is reading a book to the sixth graders in the library before they go out for a night of trick or treating and she sees Collin again. She thinks he is there with his daughter ... but it turns out to be his niece.
Will these two get together? I won't tell as I don't want to be known as a spoiler. I will give you this though, Collin wants it to happen, Marnie wants it to happen and a ghost in the library named Bill wants it to happen. But will it?
Great read on a lazy Saturday. It was short but left its mark on this reader.
This is the short and sweet romance between Collin and Marnie. High school acquaintances, Marnie was too shy at that time to let her feelings for Collin be known. Collin is back in town for Halloween and a spark of attraction between them can become something more, if they are willing to take the chance.
I quite enjoyed this paranormal romance tale. The setting was quite cute - a haunted library - and the appearance of the ghost Bill added a great touch of humour to the story. Both Collin's and Marnie's characters were well developed for the length of the novella and gave a good insight into how they ended up as the adults that they are. I liked both of them - Marnie with her demure and likeable friendly character (perfect for the librarian role) and Collin as a handsome and confident man, willing to defend Marnie and seeing in her the real, attractive woman that she is, both inside and out. With it's combination of witty dialogue, Halloween setting, sexual chemistry between the characters and a fast paced plot, it's the perfect story for a fun, entertaining, afternoon read. 4 stars!
